Treatment-Specific Questions

What should I expect during my first visit?

At your first comprehensive visit, we take a series of x-rays if overdue, a cleaning, and a thorough dental exam and treatment plan conducted by one of our dentists.

Are dental X-rays safe?

“The radiation risk from a dental x-ray is quite small. In fact, the amount of radiation you get from a full set of dental X-rays is comparable to the amount of radiation you absorb from things like:

TV’s, smartphones, and computers
Building materials like ceramic floor tiles and granite countertops
Background radiation from the sun, stars, and the Earth itself.”

What are the signs that I might need a root canal?

One of the most common signs of when a root canal is indicated is if there is pain in the affected tooth. You may feel throbbing or radiating pain when eating certain foods or applying pressure to your teeth, pain increases with hot or cold foods, and/or swelling or tenderness around the affected tooth.
The intensity of pain can vary, but should be taken seriously as it could be a sign of infection. It’s important to visit your dentist as soon as possible to diagnose the cause and recommended treatment.

How can I improve the whiteness of my teeth?

“The best natural ways to keep your teeth white are everyday healthy habits, including:

Brushing your teeth twice a day for two minutes
Using a whitening toothpaste with the ADA Seal of Acceptance
Cleaning between your teeth once a day
Limiting foods that stain your teeth, like coffee, tea, and red wine
Not smoking or using tobacco
Regular visits to your dentist for check-ups and cleanings”

If interested in a specific whitening product or service, please speak with your dentist before you begin. Whitening may not work on all teeth, and if you are a candidate, some methods whether at home or in the dental office may be better for your teeth than others.

Post-Treatment Care

What should I do if I experience pain after a dental procedure?

Pain after dental work can manifest in various forms, such as tooth sensitivity, dull ache, or sore gums in the treated area. It’s essential to note that some level of discomfort is normal after certain dental procedures. If you are experiencing persistent or severe pain 2-3 days after dental work, don’t hesitate to reach out to your dental provider.

How can I care for my teeth after a filling or crown?

It is advisable to be gentle after a dental procedure has been done. The tooth may be sore and sensitive. Patients should avoid touching the tooth or area after a day or so to ensure that it heals properly.

Avoid eating hard and sticky items temporarily, rinse with salt water or a gentle mouthwash with no alcohol for a few days after the procedure, take an anti-inflammatory medication, brush and floss gently.
